(Chris O&#8217;Neill-Yates\/CBC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"story\">\n<p>A stop-work order has been issued on diving operations at the salmon farm cleanup site on Newfoundland&#8217;s south coast after a\u00a0diver had to be airlifted from Botwood to St. John&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>The diver was working deep inside one of the dead salmon pens in Fortune Bay on Saturday and rose too quickly, apparently suffering decompression sickness, which is also\u00a0known as\u00a0the bends.<\/p>\n<section id=\"inread-wrapper-id-6\"><\/section>\n<p>Northern Harvest Sea Farms hired several dive teams to empty its open-net pens, following a massive fish die-off that left thousands of pounds of salmon to rot.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Monday morning, a spokesman for\u00a0Northern Harvest Sea Farms said the divers are employed by third-party\u00a0companies, and one of those companies reported\u00a0an incident requiring occupational health and safety to get involved.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"placeholder\">\n<div class=\"placeholderImage\"><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 334px; height: 188px;\" src=\"https:\/\/i.cbc.ca\/1.5306274.1570042251!\/fileImage\/httpImage\/image.jpg_gen\/derivatives\/original_780\/underwater-camera-fish-farm-clean-up.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, \" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5 class=\"imageMedia image full\">Using an underwater camera, CBC News was able to get a closer look at the white substance that has flooded the ocean surface near the cleaning site.
