{"id":1165,"date":"2017-11-29T17:35:14","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T22:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cadc.ca\/blog\/diver-sentenced-for-falsified-diving-medical-certificate-in-the-uk"},"modified":"2017-11-29T17:35:14","modified_gmt":"2017-11-29T22:35:14","slug":"diver-sentenced-for-falsified-diving-medical-certificate-in-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cadc.ca\/blog\/diver-sentenced-for-falsified-diving-medical-certificate-in-the-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Diver sentenced for falsified diving medical certificate in the UK."},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/diving-714852_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-41186 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/diving-714852_640-1024x1024.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/diving-714852_640-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/diving-714852_640-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/diving-714852_640-300x300.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"229\"><\/a>A man has been sentenced after supplying falsified diving medical certificates to a diving company in 2016 in the UK.<\/h3>\n<p>Leeds Magistrates\u2019 Court heard that Daniel Tennant did not hold a valid medical certificate of fitness to dive.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/health-safety-executive-hse\/?cid=nav\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Safety Executive<\/a> (HSE) discovered that in 2016 the defendant was in possession of a certificate closely resembling a genuine certificate but which had been altered to display a false expiry date.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant subsequently produced the falsified certificate to enter into a contract to provide his services as a commercial diver.<\/p>\n<h3>Pleaded guilty<\/h3>\n<p>Daniel Andrew Tennant of Bondgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire pleaded guilty to six breaches of Regulation 12 (1)(b) of the Diving at Work Regulations 1997 and one breach of Section 33 (1)(m) of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shponline.co.uk\/health-and-safety-at-work-1974\/?cid=nav\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He was sentenced to 32 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months, 150 hours community service and ordered to pay costs of \u00a312,000.<\/p>\n<p>After the hearing, HSE inspector Bill Elrick commented: \u201cDaniel Tennant undertook diving work while using a falsified fitness to dive certificate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDivers should be aware that HSE will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action if they are in possession of or use a falsified fitness to dive certificate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>(CADC NOTE: Falsified documents in the work environment can be costly &#8211; to everyone!
